Interpretation

A direct comparative hierarchy: the yogi surpasses three paths — tapasvis (practitioners of physical austerities), jnanis (those with scriptural learning), and karmis (ritual performers). Not that these are worthless — but the yogi who combines discipline, knowledge, and action in the integration of the inner self transcends each of these partial approaches. And then the direct command from the Divine: tasmad yogi bhavarjuna — 'Therefore, be a yogi, O Arjuna.' This is the culminating instruction of the chapter.
