राजन्संस्मृत्य संस्मृत्य संवादमिममद्भुतम् | केशवार्जुनयोः पुण्यं हृष्यामि च मुहुर्मुहुः ||

rājan saṁsmṛtya saṁsmṛtya saṁvādam imam adbhutam keśavārjunayoḥ puṇyaṁ hṛṣyāmi ca muhur muhuḥ

Translation

O King, remembering again and again this sacred and wonderful dialogue between Keshava and Arjuna, I rejoice again and again.

Interpretation

Sanjaya's testimony about the effect of the Gita: 'Samsmrtya samsmrtya' — remembering again and again, returning again and again — 'hrshyami ca muhur muhuh' — I rejoice again and again. This is the characteristic of genuine sacred scripture: each return to it yields new joy, new insight, new nourishment. The Gita does not exhaust itself in one reading. It deepens with every encounter. Sanjaya has witnessed the original conversation and still finds joy in its memory. This is the gift the Gita offers every reader: inexhaustible joy in returning.
