īśvaraḥ sarva-bhūtānāṁ hṛd-deśe 'rjuna tiṣṭhati bhrāmayan sarva-bhūtāni yantrārūḍhāni māyayā
Translation
The Lord dwells in the hearts of all beings, O Arjuna, causing all beings to revolve by His maya, as if mounted on a machine.
Interpretation
One of the Gita's most beautiful and mysterious verses: the Lord dwells in the heart of every being, and through the power of maya, causes all beings to revolve — to move through the cycles of existence — as if they are mounted on a machine (yantra). The machine image is striking: from one angle, beings are like automated figures following programmed paths; from another, the programmer is the Divine within each heart. The teaching integrates determinism and freedom: all movement is the Divine's movement, and yet the invitation to conscious alignment remains real and urgent.
