स्वभावजेन कौन्तेय निबद्धः स्वेन कर्मणा | कर्तुं नेच्छसि यन्मोहात्करिष्यस्यवशोऽपि तत् ||

svabhāva-jena kaunteya nibaddhaḥ svena karmaṇā kartuṁ necchasi yan mohāt kariṣyasy avaśo 'pi tat

Translation

O Arjuna, bound by your own action born of your own nature, what through delusion you do not wish to do — you shall do even against your will.

Interpretation

The law of svabhava: you are bound by the karma created from your own nature (svabhava-jena — born of your own intrinsic character). What you refuse to do through moha (delusion about your nature and duty), you will eventually do anyway — avasha (against your will, without freedom). The question is not whether you will fight but whether you will fight with wisdom and freedom or fight unconsciously, swept along by natural forces beyond your control. The Gita's teaching is about choosing conscious engagement rather than being dragged along by nature's current.
