चिन्तामपरिमेयां च प्रलयान्तामुपाश्रिताः | कामोपभोगपरमा एतावदिति निश्चिताः ||
cintām aparimeyāṁ ca pralayāntām upāśritāḥ kāmopabhoga-paramā etāvad iti niścitāḥ
Translation
Burdened with boundless anxieties that end only at death, with sense gratification as their supreme goal, convinced that this is all there is —
Interpretation
The inner life of the demoniac: boundless anxiety that doesn't stop until death (pralayantam — ending only at dissolution). Despite all their power and acquisition, there is no peace — only the relentless hum of worry, planning, protecting, and craving. Their supreme goal (parama — the highest they know) is kama-upabhoga — sensual gratification. And they are convinced this is everything: 'etavat iti nishchitah' — 'this much is all there is, I am certain of it.' This certainty is itself the deepest tragedy — the absence of even the question of whether there might be something more.
