मम योनिर्महद् ब्रह्म तस्मिन् गर्भं दधाम्यहम् | सम्भवः सर्वभूतानां ततो भवति भारत ||
mama yonir mahad brahma tasmin garbhaṁ dadhāmy aham sambhavaḥ sarva-bhūtānāṁ tato bhavati bhārata
Translation
My womb is the great Brahman (Prakriti); in that I place the embryo; from that, O Arjuna, is the birth of all beings.
Interpretation
Krishna presents the cosmic birth-mystery in one of the Gita's most profound metaphysical images. Mahat Brahman — the Great Nature, the cosmic womb — is the feminine principle (Prakriti). Krishna places the seed of consciousness within it. From this union of Purusha (cosmic consciousness, the Divine) and Prakriti (nature) all beings emerge. This verse points to the non-dual secret: Spirit and Nature are the father and mother of all existence; neither alone produces creation.
