अनपेक्षः शुचिर्दक्ष उदासीनो गतव्यथः । सर्वारम्भपरित्यागी यो मद्भक्तः स मे प्रियः ॥
anapekṣaḥ śucirdakṣa udāsīno gatavyathaḥ | sarvārambhaparityāgī yo madbhaktaḥ sa me priyaḥ ||
Translation
Expecting nothing, pure, expert, indifferent, without distress, having renounced all undertakings — that devotee of Mine is dear to Me.
Interpretation
Six more qualities: (1) anapeksha — expecting nothing, without desire for results; (2) shuci — pure (inner and outer purity); (3) daksha — expert, capable, competent (the devotee is not passive or inept); (4) udasina — indifferent (to outcomes, to praise and blame); (5) gata-vyathah — without distress (beyond the anxiety that comes from ego-investment); (6) sarvarambha-parityagi — having renounced all undertakings (in the sense of ego-initiated projects — actions not driven by personal ambition). Such a person is the Divine's dear devotee.
