सन्तुष्टः सततं योगी यतात्मा दृढनिश्चयः । मय्यर्पितमनोबुद्धिर्यो मद्भक्तः स मे प्रियः ॥
santuṣṭaḥ satataṃ yogī yatātmā dṛḍhaniścayaḥ | mayyarpitamanobuddhiryo madbhaktaḥ sa me priyaḥ ||
Translation
Always content, steady in meditation, self-controlled, of firm conviction — with mind and intellect dedicated to Me, that devotee of Mine is dear to Me.
Interpretation
Four more qualities: (1) santushtha satatam — ever content, always satisfied regardless of circumstances; (2) yogi — steady in meditation; (3) yatatma — self-controlled; (4) dridha-nishchaya — of firm conviction, unshakeable in understanding. And the culminating definition: mayyarpita-mano-buddhi (mind and intellect dedicated to Me). The verse ends: yo mad-bhakta sa me priyah — 'that devotee of Mine is dear to Me.' The combination of inner qualities (contentment, control, conviction) with devotional orientation (mind and intellect given to the Divine) defines the person who is genuinely dear to the Divine.
