paśyādityānvasūnrudrānaśvinau marutastathā | bahūnyadṛṣṭapūrvāṇi paśyāścaryāṇi bhārata ||

Translation

Behold the Adityas, Vasus, Rudras, the twin Ashvins, and the Maruts! Behold, O Bharata, the many marvels never seen before!

Interpretation

The celestial hosts are named: the twelve Adityas (solar deities), the eight Vasus (elemental deities), the eleven Rudras (storm/fire deities), the two Ashvins (divine physicians, twins associated with healing and beauty), and the forty-nine Maruts (wind deities). And beyond all categories: 'marvels never seen before' (adrshta-purvani ascaryani). The cosmic vision will contain what no human eye has ever witnessed. The language of wonder (ascharya — marvel, wonder, astonishment) sets the emotional register for what follows.
