किरीटिनं गदिनं चक्रहस्तम् इच्छामि त्वां द्रष्टुमहं तथैव । तेनैव रूपेण चतुर्भुजेन सहस्रबाहो भव विश्वमूर्ते ॥
kirīṭinaṃ gadinaṃ cakrahastam icchāmi tvāṃ draṣṭumahaṃ tathaiva | tenaiva rūpeṇa caturbhujena sahasrabāho bhava viśvamūrte ||
Translation
I wish to see You with the crown and club and discus in hand — just as before. Appear in that four-armed form, O thousand-armed one, O Universal Form!
Interpretation
Arjuna's specific request: kiritnam gadinam chakrahastam — with crown, club, and discus (the four-armed Vishnu form). Tenaiva rupena chaturbhujena — 'in that very four-armed form.' The familiar deity form that Arjuna knows and loves — not the overwhelming Vishvarupa with its thousand arms (sahashrabaho — O thousand-armed one, he addresses the Vishvarupa even while asking it to become the four-armed form). This verse marks the human longing for the accessible, relatable face of the Divine after the overwhelming encounter with infinity.
