श्रीभगवानुवाच मया प्रसन्नेन तवार्जुनेदं रूपं परं दर्शितमात्मयोगात् । तेजोमयं विश्वमनन्तमाद्यं यन्मे त्वदन्येन न दृष्टपूर्वम् ॥
śrī bhagavān uvāca mayā prasannena tavārjunedaṃ rūpaṃ paraṃ darśitamātmayogāt | tejomayaṃ viśvamanantamādyaṃ yanme tvadanyena na dṛṣṭapūrvam ||
Translation
The Blessed Lord said: O Arjuna, out of grace for you, by My own yoga-power I have shown you this supreme form — full of splendor, universal, infinite, primal — which none other than you has seen before.
Interpretation
Krishna's response to the vision: He is gracious (prasannena — pleased, gracious) toward Arjuna. By his own yoga-power (atma-yogat — not by any external force), He showed this supreme form (rupam param). The form is described: tejo-mayam (full of splendor), vishvam (universal), anantam (infinite), adyam (primal, original). And the extraordinary statement: yan me tvadanyena na drishtapurvam — 'Which none other than you has ever seen.' Arjuna has received a grace that no other being in the world has received. This is the unique intimacy of the Divine-devotee relationship.
