सखेति मत्वा प्रसभं यदुक्तं हे कृष्ण हे यादव हे सखेति । अजानता महिमानं तवेदं mayā pramādātpraṇayena vāpi ॥
sakheti matvā prasabhaṃ yaduktaṃ he kṛṣṇa he yādava he sakheti | ajānatā mahimānaṃ tavedam mayā pramādātpraṇayena vāpi ||
Translation
Whatever I may have presumptuously said out of friendship or carelessness — calling You 'O Krishna,' 'O Yadava,' 'O friend' — not knowing Your greatness —
Interpretation
Arjuna's profound apology begins. Now that he has seen the Vishvarupa, he looks back at all the casual, friend-to-friend address he had offered Krishna — 'Hey Krishna,' 'Hey Yadava,' 'Hey friend' — and realizes he spoke these without knowing the magnitude of who he was addressing. Ajnata mahimanam tavadam — 'not knowing this greatness of Yours.' Prasabham — presumptuously, boldly. Pramadat — out of carelessness. Pranayena va — or perhaps out of (excessive) affection/familiarity. This is one of the most humanly tender moments in the Gita.
