Translation
You are the Imperishable, the supreme to be known. You are the ultimate repository of this universe. You are the imperishable guardian of eternal dharma. You are the eternal Purusha — this is my understanding.
Interpretation
Arjuna's understanding crystallizes into recognition: (1) Aksharaṃ param veditavyam — the supreme Imperishable that is the ultimate object of knowledge; (2) asya vishvasya param nidhanam — the supreme resting place and treasury of this entire universe; (3) avyaya shashvata-dharma-gopta — the imperishable guardian of eternal dharma; (4) sanatana Purusha — the eternal Person. This is the moment of recognition within the overwhelming vision: the infinite form before him is the Supreme Reality described in all the scriptures.
