न काङ्क्षे विजयं कृष्ण न च राज्यं सुखानि च | किं नो राज्येन गोविन्द किं भोगैर्जीवितेन वा ||३१||
na kāṅkṣhe vijayaṁ kṛṣhṇa na cha rājyaṁ sukhāni cha kiṁ no rājyena govinda kiṁ bhogair jīvitena vā
Translation
I do not long for victory, O Krishna, nor kingdom, nor pleasures. O Govinda, of what avail is kingdom, enjoyment, or even life itself?
Interpretation
Arjuna renounces the very goals for which the war is being fought — victory, kingdom, pleasure. This sounds like spiritual detachment, but Krishna will show that it is actually delusion masquerading as renunciation. True renunciation is action without attachment, not inaction arising from grief.
