निमित्तानि च पश्यामि विपरीतानि केशव | न च श्रेयोऽनुपश्यामि हत्वा स्वजनमाहवे ||३०||
nimittāni cha paśhyāmi viparītāni keśhava na cha śhreyo'nupaśhyāmi hatvā sva-janam āhave
Translation
I see only evil omens, O Keshava, and I foresee no good from slaying my own kinsmen in battle.
Interpretation
Arjuna sees 'viparītāni nimittāni' — evil or reversed omens. His inner moral sense tells him something is deeply wrong. He begins to reason his way through his anguish, offering philosophical arguments against the war. Krishna will patiently address each argument.
