येषामर्थे काङ्क्षितं नो राज्यं भोगाः सुखानि च | त इमेऽवस्थिता युद्धे प्राणांस्त्यक्त्वा धनानि च ||३२||
yeṣhām arthe kāṅkṣhitaṁ no rājyaṁ bhogāḥ sukhāni cha ta ime'vasthitā yuddhe prāṇāṁs tyaktvā dhanāni cha
Translation
Those for whom we desire kingdom, enjoyments, and pleasures are standing here ready to fight, having given up life and wealth.
Interpretation
Arjuna's grief deepens into a logical paradox: the people for whom he would want a kingdom — his teachers, family, and friends — are the very ones who will die in the battle for that kingdom. What is the purpose of winning if the people who make life meaningful are gone?
