तत्रापश्यत्स्थितान्पार्थः पितॄनथ पितामहान् | आचार्यान्मातुलान्भ्रातॄन्पुत्रान्पौत्रान्सखींस्तथा ||२५||
tatrāpaśhyat sthitān pārthaḥ pitṝn atha pitāmahān āchāryān mātulān bhrātṝn putrān pautrān sakhīṁs tathā
Translation
There, Arjuna could see stationed in both armies, his fathers, grandfathers, teachers, maternal uncles, brothers, sons, grandsons, and comrades.
Interpretation
The vision is devastating: every category of beloved person — fathers, grandfathers, teachers, uncles, brothers, sons, grandsons, friends — stands before him. The battlefield is not populated by enemies; it is populated by his entire world of relationships.
