सञ्जय उवाच | एवमुक्तो हृषीकेशो गुडाकेशेन भारत | सेनयोरुभयोर्मध्ये स्थापयित्वा रथोत्तमम् ||२३||
sañjaya uvāca evam ukto hṛṣīkeśho guḍākeśhena bhārata senayos ubhayor madhye sthāpayitvā rathottamam
Translation
Sanjaya said: O descendant of Bharata, being thus addressed by Arjuna, Lord Krishna drew up the fine chariot in the midst of the armies of both parties.
Interpretation
Krishna, addressed as 'Hrishikesha' (master of the senses), immediately fulfills Arjuna's request. Arjuna is called 'Gudakesha' — the conqueror of sleep, suggesting mastery over the mind. Both names will take on irony: the master of senses is about to be mastered by grief; the conqueror of sleep is about to be paralyzed by delusion.
