मया ततमिदं सर्वं जगदव्यक्तमूर्तिना । मत्स्थानि सर्वभूतानि न चाहं तेष्ववस्थितः ॥
mayā tatamidaṃ sarvaṃ jagadavyaktamūrtinā | matsthāni sarvabhūtāni na cāhaṃ teṣvavasthitaḥ ||
Translation
By Me, in My unmanifest form, all this world is pervaded. All beings exist in Me; but I do not abide in them.
Interpretation
The great paradox of the Divine's relationship to creation: avyakta-murtina (in My unmanifest form) — the Divine pervades all. All beings exist in the Divine (matsthani sarvabhutani). Yet — na ca aham teshu avasthitah — the Divine does not abide in them. How can all be in the Divine while the Divine is not in them? The Divine is the container, not the contained. The ocean contains all waves; the waves do not contain the ocean. The Divine is not imprisoned in creation; creation floats in the infinite Divine.
