राजविद्या राजगुह्यं पवित्रमिदमुत्तमम् । प्रत्यक्षावगमं धर्म्यं सुसुखं कर्तुमव्ययम् ॥
rājavidyā rājaguhyaṃ pavitramidamuttamam | pratyakṣāvagamaṃ dharmyaṃ susukhaṃ kartumavyayam ||
Translation
This is the sovereign knowledge, the sovereign secret, the supreme purifier — directly experienced, in accordance with dharma, very easy to practice, and imperishable.
Interpretation
Five superlatives for this teaching: (1) raja-vidya — the king of all knowledge; (2) raja-guhyam — the king of all secrets; (3) pavitram uttamam — the supreme purifier; (4) pratyaksha-avagamam — directly experienced, not theoretical; (5) susukham kartum — very easy to practice. And it is avyayam — imperishable. The ease of practice is significant: the highest truth is not the most complicated to apply. Love and surrender are simpler than elaborate rituals, though deeper than any ritual.
