अव्यक्तं व्यक्तिमापन्नं मन्यन्ते मामबुद्धयः । परं भावमजानन्तो ममाव्ययमनुत्तमम् ॥
avyaktaṃ vyaktimāpannaṃ manyante māmabuddhayaḥ | paraṃ bhāvamajānanto mamāvyayamanuttamam ||
Translation
The foolish think of Me as unmanifest that has come into manifestation — they do not know My supreme nature, which is imperishable and unsurpassable.
Interpretation
A common mistake: the unintelligent (abudhayah — those without deeper understanding) think that the formless, infinite Divine has 'become' the personal form of Krishna — as if the infinite contracted into the finite. They do not understand the supreme nature (param bhavam): Krishna's personal form is a condescension of grace, a taking-on of form for the benefit of devotees, while the essential nature remains avyayam (imperishable) and anuttamam (unsurpassable). The form does not exhaust or limit the formless.
