न मां दुष्कृतिनो मूढाः प्रपद्यन्ते नराधमाः । मायया अपहृतज्ञाना आसुरं भावमाश्रिताः ॥
na māṃ duṣkṛtino mūḍhāḥ prapadyante narādhamāḥ | māyayā apahṛtajñānā āsuraṃ bhāvamāśritāḥ ||
Translation
The evil-doers, the foolish, the lowest of men — whose knowledge has been taken away by maya and who partake of a demonic nature — do not surrender to Me.
Interpretation
Why don't all people surrender to the Divine, given that it is the clear path to liberation? Four types who do not: (1) dushkritinah — those who habitually do evil; (2) mudhah — the foolish, those who cannot distinguish the real from the unreal; (3) naradhama — the lowest of humans, those who act contrary to their human potential; (4) mayaya apahrita-jnana — those whose knowledge has been stolen by maya. And all are characterized by asuram bhavam — a demonic orientation, one that rejects the divine order. This is not eternal damnation but a description of the current state of consciousness.
