दैवी ह्येषा गुणमयी मम माया दुरत्यया । मामेव ये प्रपद्यन्ते मायामेतां तरन्ति ते ॥
daivī hyeṣā guṇamayī mama māyā duratyayā | māmeva ye prapadyante māyāmetāṃ taranti te ||
Translation
For this My divine maya — made of the gunas — is difficult to transcend. Those who surrender to Me alone — they cross beyond this maya.
Interpretation
Maya (divine illusion) is daivi (divine — not a mistake, but a creative power of the Divine), guna-mayi (constituted by the three gunas), and duratyaya (very difficult to cross over — like a vast ocean). No amount of intellectual effort alone can transcend it because the intellect itself is a product of maya. The only way across: mameva ye prapadyante — those who surrender to Me alone. Surrender to the Divine is the raft that crosses the ocean of maya. This is the Gita's revolutionary teaching: the very thing that entraps us can be transcended only by turning to its source.
