ज्ञानेन तु तदज्ञानं येषां नाशितमात्मनः । तेषामादित्यवज्ज्ञानं प्रकाशयति तत्परम् ॥
jñānena tu tadajñānaṃ yeṣāṃ nāśitamātmanaḥ | teṣāmādityavajjñānaṃ prakāśayati tatparam ||
Translation
But for those in whom that ignorance of the Self is destroyed by knowledge — their knowledge, like the sun, illumines the Supreme.
Interpretation
The sun simile is perfect: the sun does not create light, it IS light, and wherever it shines, darkness cannot exist. Similarly, when true self-knowledge arises, ignorance cannot coexist with it. It is not that knowledge conquers ignorance in a battle; rather, when the lamp of knowledge is lit, the darkness of ignorance simply is not there. And that light reveals what was always present but hidden: the Supreme — one's own true nature as eternal, free, blissful consciousness.
