4.36
अपि चेदसि पापेभ्यः सर्वेभ्यः पापकृत्तमः | सर्वं ज्ञानप्लवेनैव वृजिनं सन्तरिष्यसि ||३६||
api ched asi pāpebhyaḥ sarvebhyaḥ pāpa-kṛttamaḥ sarvaṁ jñāna-plavenaiva vṛjinaṁ santariṣhyasi
Translation
Even if you are considered to be the most sinful of all sinners, when you are situated in the boat of transcendental knowledge you will be able to cross over the ocean of miseries.
Interpretation
The radical inclusiveness of jnana (knowledge): even the greatest sinner ('pāpa-kṛttamaḥ' — the most sinful of all) can be saved by the boat of knowledge. No past sin is so great that genuine awakening cannot dissolve it. Knowledge is not a reward for virtue — it is the fire that burns all accumulated impurity.
