Bhagavad Gita
3.18

नैव तस्य कृतेनार्थो नाकृतेनेह कश्चन | न चास्य सर्वभूतेषु कश्चिदर्थव्यपाश्रयः ||१८||

naiva tasya kṛtenārtho nākṛteneha kaśhchana na chāsya sarva-bhūteṣhu kaśhchid artha-vyapāśhrayaḥ

Translation

A self-realized man has no purpose to fulfill in the discharge of his prescribed duties, nor has he any reason not to perform such work. Nor has he any need to depend on any other living being.

Interpretation

The Self-realized being is beyond the realm of obligation. They have nothing to gain from action and nothing to lose from inaction. They have no dependency on any being. Yet — as the next verse shows — they continue to act, out of love for the world and as an example for others.
