Bhagavad Gita
2.66

नास्ति बुद्धिरयुक्तस्य न चायुक्तस्य भावना | न चाभावयतः शान्तिरशान्तस्य कुतः सुखम् ||६६||

nāsti buddhir ayuktasya na chāyuktasya bhāvanā na chābhāvayataḥ śhāntir aśhāntasya kutaḥ sukham

Translation

One who is not connected with the Supreme (ayukta) can have neither transcendental intelligence nor a steady mind. Without such a mind there is no possibility of peace; and how can there be any happiness without peace?

Interpretation

A chain of necessity: without yoga (connection with the divine), no stable intellect. Without stable intellect, no meditative focus. Without meditative focus, no peace (shanti). Without peace, no happiness. This is the logic of the spiritual life — happiness is not found by pursuing happiness but by purifying the inner life.
