Bhagavad Gita
2.48

योगस्थः कुरु कर्माणि सङ्गं त्यक्त्वा धनञ्जय | सिद्ध्यसिद्ध्योः समो भूत्वा समत्वं योग उच्यते ||४८||

yoga-sthaḥ kuru karmāṇi saṅgaṁ tyaktvā dhanaṁjaya siddhy-asiddhyoḥ samo bhūtvā samatvaṁ yoga uchyate

Translation

Be steadfast in yoga, O Arjuna. Perform your duty, giving up attachment to success and failure. Such equanimity is called yoga.

Interpretation

Yoga is defined here as 'samatvam' — equanimity, the state of being equally balanced in success and failure. This is not indifference but a deep centeredness. The yogi acts fully and completely, without being internally moved by whether the action succeeds or fails. The action is dedicated; the result is released.
