यामिमां पुष्पितां वाचं प्रवदन्त्यविपश्चितः | वेदवादरताः पार्थ नान्यदस्तीति वादिनः ||४२||
yām imāṁ puṣhpitāṁ vāchaṁ pravadanty avipaśhchitaḥ veda-vāda-ratāḥ pārtha nānyad astīti vādinaḥ
Translation
O Partha, those who are without wisdom delight in the flowery words of the Vedas, which advocate actions for the attainment of heaven and declare that there is nothing higher.
Interpretation
A critique of a superficial approach to scripture: those who mistake the letter of the Vedas for its spirit, who perform rituals solely for heavenly rewards, and who declare that material prosperity and celestial enjoyment are the highest goals. This is 'puṣhpitā vāk' — flowery speech that pleases the ear but does not pierce to the truth.
