Bhagavad Gita
18.58

मच्चित्तः सर्वदुर्गाणि मत्प्रसादात्तरिष्यसि | अथ चेत्त्वमहङ्कारान्न श्रोष्यसि विनङ्क्ष्यसि ||

mac-cittaḥ sarva-durgāṇi mat-prasādāt tariṣyasi atha cet tvam ahaṅkārān na śroṣyasi vinaṅkṣyasi

Translation

With your consciousness in Me, you shall cross over all difficulties by My grace. But if from ego you do not listen — you shall perish.

Interpretation

The stakes are made plain: with consciousness in Krishna, all difficulties are crossed by grace. This is not a promise of a trouble-free life but that consciousness fixed in the Divine can navigate anything. Then the fearful alternative: if from ego (ahamkara — the identifying with the limited self) Arjuna does not listen — he will perish. Not merely fail in battle but 'vinanksyasi' — be destroyed, miss the opportunity of this human life. The word 'ego' is the pivot: it is ego that refuses to listen, ego that insists on its own way, ego that blocks the grace that is always available.
