Interpretation

Tat ('That') is the syllable of renunciation and transcendence. When acts of sacrifice, austerity, and charity are dedicated with 'Tat' — offered to That which is beyond name and form, without any attachment to personal results — they become purified of ego-contamination. Those who seek moksha (liberation) perform their acts with this orientation: not 'I do this for my benefit' but 'I do this as an offering to That which transcends me.' This is the Gita's karma yoga in its most condensed form — action surrendered to the Transcendent.
