आढ्योऽभिजनवानस्मि कोऽन्योऽस्ति सदृशो मया | यक्ष्ये दास्यामि मोदिष्य इत्यज्ञानविमोहिताः ||
āḍhyo 'bhijanavān asmi ko 'nyo 'sti sadṛśo mayā yakṣye dāsyāmi modiṣya ity ajñāna-vimohitāḥ
Translation
'I am rich and well-born. Who else is equal to me? I shall perform sacrifice, I shall give charity, I shall rejoice' — thus deluded by ignorance —
Interpretation
The ego's final boast: wealth and noble birth as the ultimate credentials, a rhetorical 'Who is my equal?' Even religious acts (sacrifice, charity) are co-opted for ego display: 'I shall give, I shall rejoice' — not from genuine generosity but as further demonstrations of superiority. These people are 'deluded by ignorance' (ajnana-vimohitah) — their elaborate self-presentation, their religious performances, their social position are all elaborate structures built on the fundamental confusion about who they are. The ignorance is not lack of education but the basic misidentification with ego rather than Self.
