यस्मात्क्षरमतीतोऽहमक्षरादपि चोत्तमः | अतोऽस्मि लोके वेदे च प्रथितः पुरुषोत्तमः ||
yasmāt kṣaram atīto 'ham akṣarād api cottamaḥ ato 'smi loke vede ca prathitaḥ puruṣottamaḥ
Translation
Because I transcend the perishable and am higher than even the imperishable, I am therefore known in the world and in the Vedas as the Purushottama — the Supreme Person.
Interpretation
Krishna names himself directly: Purushottama — the Highest Person, beyond both the perishable and the imperishable. This is simultaneously a metaphysical claim and an act of profound self-disclosure. Krishna says: I am what you seek at the end of all seeking. I am known this way in both ordinary experience (loke) and in the highest scriptures (vede). The name Purushottama is not a title claimed in pride but a description of what is simply true — the reality that stands beyond all categories while being the ground and heart of everything.
