गामाविश्य च भूतानि धारयाम्यहमोजसा | पुष्णामि चौषधीः सर्वाः सोमो भूत्वा रसात्मकः ||

gām āviśya ca bhūtāni dhārayāmy aham ojasā puṣṇāmi cauṣadhīḥ sarvāḥ somo bhūtvā rasātmakaḥ

Translation

Entering the earth, I support all beings with My vital force; becoming the sap-filled moon, I nourish all plants.

Interpretation

Krishna reveals his cosmic role as sustainer: entering the earth, he supports all beings with vital force. Becoming the moon — specifically its nourishing, sap-filled (rasatmaka) aspect — he feeds all vegetation. The moon in Vedic thought governs the sap of plants, the moisture of life, the cycles of growth. This verse describes not merely a poetic metaphor but a spiritual truth: the same Divine energy that is the ground of being is also the living force within every living thing. The earth's gravity, the moon's gravitational pull on tides and sap, the vital force in all life — all are expressions of the Divine.
