Interpretation
Having described the field (verses 6-7), Krishna now describes the qualities of true knowledge — the inner environment in which knowledge of the field and knower can arise. First set of nine qualities: amanitvam (humility — absence of pride), adambhitvam (unpretentiousness, absence of hypocrisy), ahimsa (non-violence), kshanti (patience, forbearance), arjavam (uprightness, honesty), acharya-upasanam (service to the teacher), shaucham (purity — inner and outer), sthairyam (steadiness), and atma-vinigraha (self-control). These are the conditions that purify the mind for true knowledge.
