Bhagavad Gita
13.27

यावत्सञ्जायते किञ्चित्सत्त्वं स्थावरजङ्गमम् । क्षेत्रक्षेत्रज्ञसंयोगात्तद्विद्धि भरतर्षभ ॥

yāvatsañjāyate kiñcitsattvaṃ sthāvarajaṅgamam | kṣetrakṣetrajñasaṃyogāttadviddhi bharatarṣabha ||

Translation

Whatever being is born — immovable or moving — know that as coming from the union of the field and the Knower of the field, O best of Bharatas.

Interpretation

The universal principle: all beings, sthavara (immovable — plants, minerals) and jangama (moving — animals, humans), arise from kshetra-kshetrajna-samyogat — the union (samyoga) of the field and the Knower of the field. Life is consciousness plus matter, Purusha plus Prakriti, Self plus body. Neither alone produces a living being. This is the complete description of all existence: wherever there is a being, there is this union. And wherever there is this union, liberation is possible — because the union can be consciously recognized and transcended.
