Translation
Constancy in knowledge of the Self; seeing the goal of the knowledge of truth — all this is declared to be knowledge. Whatever is contrary to this is ignorance.
Interpretation
The final two qualities: adhyatma-jnana-nityatvam (constancy in knowledge of the Self — uninterrupted self-inquiry) and tattva-jnana-artha-darshana (seeing the goal of the knowledge of truth — understanding what knowledge of the Real actually means and aims at). And then the defining statement: etaj jnanam (this is knowledge) — and whatever is contrary to this is ajnanam (ignorance). All twenty qualities described in verses 8-12 together constitute the environment of true knowledge. The absence of any of them is some form of ignorance.
