मत्कर्मकृन्मत्परमो मद्भक्तः सङ्गवर्जितः । निर्वैरः सर्वभूतेषु यः स मामेति पाण्डव ॥
matkarmakṛnmatparamo madbhaktaḥ saṅgavarjitaḥ | nirvairaḥ sarvabhūteṣu yaḥ sa māmeti pāṇḍava ||
Translation
One who does My work, who has Me as the supreme goal, who is devoted to Me, who is free from attachment, and who is free from enmity toward all beings — such a person comes to Me, O Pandava.
Interpretation
The concluding verse of Chapter 11 gives the complete description of one who attains the Divine. Five qualities: (1) mat-karma-krit — does the Divine's work (acts in service of the Divine's purpose); (2) mat-paramah — has Me as the supreme goal; (3) mad-bhaktah — is devoted to Me; (4) sanga-varjita — free from attachment (not clinging to results or possessions); (5) nirvairah sarva-bhuteshu — free from enmity toward all beings. The last quality — no enmity toward any being — is the fruit of seeing the one Self in all, the natural consequence of the vision described throughout Chapter 11. Such a person comes to the Divine.
