तस्मात्त्वमुत्तिष्ठ यशो लभस्व जित्वा शत्रून्भुङ्क्ष्व राज्यं समृद्धम् । मयैवैते निहताः पूर्वमेव nimittamātraṃ bhava savyasācin ॥
tasmāttvamuttiṣṭha yaśo labhasva jītvā śatrūnbhuṅkṣva rājyaṃ samṛddham | mayaivaite nihatāḥ pūrvameva nimittamātraṃ bhava savyasācin ||
Translation
Therefore, stand up and gain glory! Conquering the enemy, enjoy the prosperous kingdom. These warriors have already been slain by Me — you are only the instrument, O Savyasachin.
Interpretation
The practical instruction from the cosmic vision: tasmad (therefore) — uttishttha (arise, stand up), yasho labhasva (gain glory), jitva shatrun (having conquered the enemies), bhunksva rajyam (enjoy the kingdom). And the liberating truth: mayaiva ete nihatah purvam eva — 'These have already been slain by Me — it is already done.' Nimittamatram bhava — 'Be only an instrument.' Arjuna is not asked to become a killer; he is invited to be a nimita (instrument, cause) of what the infinite has already determined. This is the deepest teaching on free will and cosmic determinism in the Gita.
