Interpretation

The moment of vision: Arjuna sees (apashyad — beheld, directly perceived) the entire universe (jagat krit-snam) standing in one place (ekastham) in the body of Krishna. Divided in its many kinds (pravibhaktam anekedha) — the multiplicity of creation — yet all unified in one divine body. This is not a metaphor or a vision of something symbolic; in the context of the Gita, this is a direct perception of the universe as the body of the Divine — the vision that mystics across all traditions have pointed toward and that usually remains beyond words.
