अर्जुन उवाच मदनुग्रहाय परमं गुह्यमध्यात्मसंज्ञितम् । यत्त्वयोक्तं वचस्तेन मोहोऽयं विगतो मम ॥
arjuna uvāca madanugrahāya paramaṃ guhyamadhyātmasaṃjñitam | yattvayoktaṃ vacastena moho'yaṃ vigato mama ||
Translation
Arjuna said: Out of compassion for me, You have declared the supreme secret called adhyatma (the knowledge of the Self). Through Your words, this delusion of mine has been dispelled.
Interpretation
Chapter 11 begins with Arjuna's gratitude. The teachings of Chapters 7-10 — on the Divine's two natures, the yoga of knowledge, the royal secret, and the divine vibhutis — have pierced his delusion. He acknowledges that Krishna spoke out of compassion (madanugrahaya — for my sake, for my grace). This humility and gratitude are themselves marks of a prepared student. Arjuna is now ready for what no human has seen and lived to describe: the Vishvarupa, the cosmic universal form.
