वक्तुमर्हस्यशेषेण दिव्या ह्यात्मविभूतयः । याभिर्विभूतिभिर्लोकानिमांस्त्वं व्याप्य तिष्ठसि ॥
vaktumarhasyaśeṣeṇa divyā hyātmavibhūtayaḥ | yābhirvibhūtibhirlokānimāṃstvaṃ vyāpya tiṣṭhasi ||
Translation
Please tell me without omission Your divine self-manifestations (vibhutis), by which You pervade and stand in these worlds.
Interpretation
Arjuna's request is specific: tell me of Your vibhutis — the divine glories, the specific manifestations by which the one Divine appears as the excellence and splendor of everything great in the universe. This sets up the famous catalogue that follows. The teaching of vibhuti is a meditation practice: by recognizing the Divine in everything most excellent, the devotee's perception of the world becomes suffused with the presence of the Divine.
