पुरुषः स परः पार्थ भक्त्या लभ्यस्त्वनन्यया । यस्यान्तःस्थानि भूतानि येन सर्वमिदं ततम् ॥
puruṣaḥ sa paraḥ pārtha bhaktyā labhyastvananyayā | yasyāntaḥsthāni bhūtāni yena sarvamidaṃ tatam ||
Translation
That Supreme Purusha, O Partha, in whom all beings exist and by whom all this is pervaded — is attained by undivided devotion.
Interpretation
The supreme nature of the Divine: yasya antah-sthani bhutani — all beings exist within it (the Divine contains all), and yena sarvam idam tatam — by whom all this is pervaded (the Divine permeates all). Container and content, pervader and pervaded — this is the complete vision of the Divine's relationship to creation. And the means of attaining this Supreme? Ananya bhakti — undivided, exclusive devotion. Not learning, not austerity, not ritual alone — but the wholehearted turning of the complete human being toward the Divine.
