अव्यक्ताद्व्यक्तयः सर्वाः प्रभवन्त्यहरागमे । रात्र्यागमे प्रलीयन्ते तत्रैवाव्यक्तसंज्ञके ॥
avyaktādvyaktayaḥ sarvāḥ prabhavanttyaharāgame | rātryāgame pralīyante tatraivāvyaktasaṃjñake ||
Translation
At the coming of Brahma's day, all manifest beings arise from the unmanifest. At the coming of night, they dissolve into that same unmanifest.
Interpretation
The cosmic rhythm of creation and dissolution: at the dawn of Brahma's day (ahar-agame), all manifest beings emerge (prabhavanti) from the unmanifest (avyakta — the undifferentiated primordial state). At the coming of night (ratri-agame), all dissolve back into that same unmanifest. This is the breathing of creation — a vast inhalation (creation) and exhalation (dissolution). All of physical existence participates in this cosmic rhythm. Only the Supreme beyond both manifest and unmanifest is unaffected.
