3.28
तत्त्ववित्तु महाबाहो गुणकर्मविभागयोः | गुणा गुणेषु वर्तन्त इति मत्वा न सज्जते ||२८||
tattva-vit tu mahā-bāho guṇa-karma-vibhāgayoḥ guṇā guṇeṣhu vartanta iti matvā na sajjate
Translation
One who is in knowledge of the Absolute Truth, O mighty-armed, does not engage himself in the senses and sense gratification, knowing well the differences between work in devotion and work for fruitive results.
Interpretation
The knower of truth (tattva-vit) understands that 'gunas move among gunas' — the qualities of nature interact with each other; the senses engage with sense objects. The Self is not involved. With this understanding, the wise person does not get entangled. They watch the play of gunas without identifying with it.
