na buddhi-bhedaṁ janayed ajñānāṁ karma-saṅginām joṣhayet sarva-karmāṇi vidvān yuktaḥ samācharan
Translation
So as not to disrupt the minds of ignorant men attached to the fruitive results of prescribed duties, a learned man should not induce them to stop work. Rather, by working in the spirit of devotion, he should engage them in all sorts of activities (for the gradual development of Krishna consciousness).
Interpretation
The wise person should not disturb the minds of those who are still attached to the fruits of action. Rather than suddenly pulling the rug out from under ordinary people's motivations, the wise teacher gently guides them to perform the same actions with a more liberated inner attitude. Spiritual progress is gradual and should honor where people actually are.
