3.22
न मे पार्थास्ति कर्तव्यं त्रिषु लोकेषु किञ्चन | नानवाप्तमवाप्तव्यं वर्त एव च कर्मणि ||२२||
na me pārthāsti kartavyaṁ triṣhu lokeṣhu kiñchana nānavāptam avāptavyaṁ varta eva cha karmaṇi
Translation
O Partha, there is no work prescribed for Me within all the three planetary systems. Nor am I in want of anything, nor have I need to obtain anything — and yet I am engaged in work.
Interpretation
Krishna reveals a remarkable fact: he has no personal duty or need in all three worlds. He has nothing to gain from action, nothing lacking that action could supply. Yet he acts. This is the purest form of action — action not for any self-interest but entirely for the sake of the world. This is the model for all spiritual action.
