Bhagavad Gita
3.20

कर्मणैव हि संसिद्धिमास्थिता जनकादयः | लोकसंग्रहमेवापि सम्पश्यन्कर्तुमर्हसि ||२०||

karmaṇaiva hi saṁsiddhim āsthitā janakādayaḥ loka-saṁgraham evāpi sampaśhyan kartum arhasi

Translation

Even kings like Janaka and others obtained the perfection by performance of prescribed duties. Therefore, just for the sake of educating the people in general, you should perform your work.

Interpretation

King Janaka — a great sage-king who was fully enlightened yet continued to govern and perform royal duties — is the model. He acted not out of personal need but for 'loka-sangraha' — the welfare and coherence of the world. Arjuna too must act, partly for his own duty, but also to set an example for humanity.
