saha-yajñāḥ prajāḥ sṛṣṭvā purovācha prajāpatiḥ anena prasaviṣhyadhvam eṣha vo'stv iṣhṭa-kāma-dhuk
Translation
In the beginning of creation, the Lord of all creatures sent forth generations of men and demigods, along with sacrifices for Vishnu, and blessed them by saying: Be thou happy by this Yajna (sacrifice) because its performance will bestow upon you everything desirable for living happily and achieving liberation.
Interpretation
The cosmic origin of Yajna: at the beginning of creation, Prajapati (the creator) established the cycle of sacrifice. The universe itself is a vast yajna — a mutual giving and receiving between humans, nature, and the divine. When humans participate consciously in this cycle through their work, they prosper; when they break the cycle by consuming without giving, they decline.
