यावानर्थ उदपाने सर्वतः सम्प्लुतोदके | तावान्सर्वेषु वेदेषु ब्राह्मणस्य विजानतः ||४६||
yāvān artha udapāne sarvataḥ samplutodake tāvān sarveṣhu vedeṣhu brāhmaṇasya vijānataḥ
Translation
All purposes served by a small well can at once be served by a great reservoir of water. Similarly, all the purposes of the Vedas can be served by one who knows the Supreme Brahman.
Interpretation
A beautiful analogy: just as a small well becomes irrelevant when surrounded by a vast reservoir, all the specific prescriptions of the Vedas are superseded for the one who has realized Brahman. Such a one has the source of all the Vedas' power — direct knowledge of Truth. The Vedas are a raft to cross the river; those who have reached the far shore do not carry the raft.
